MHIS MYP Personal Project Virtual Exhibit 2022

The Personal Project is the culminating assessment of the IB Middle Years Programme. Over the course of Year 5, students engage in rigorous inquiry, research and action in order to achieve a learning and product goal of their own design.

During the course of the personal project, students choose a learning goal and develop a product goal that connects their chose topic to their personal interest.

The Personal Project prepares students for success in the IB Diploma Programme by introducing them to the challenges of independent work, in which self-motivation is essential. The extensive research required by the project and the presentation of an academic report provide an introduction to the rigor and skills required by the DP Extended Essay.

A skateboard experience through EMPATHY

When I was 13 years old I started riding skateboards and I loved it so much that I used to take it everywhere I go. I really enjoyed it and I wanted others to enjoy it too. Many of the kids in my age group love skateboarding but can’t really enjoy it because of certain circumstances. A part of them is blind and visually impaired people. This issue was running through my mind for a long period of time, so I used my personal project as an opportunity to solve this problem. I started to connect my passion (skateboarding), what I loved doing (design), and the people I would like to help (blind people). Then I came up with this unique idea, to let blind people taste the joy of skateboarding bnm.

Art: surprisingly art turned out to be not only paint, colors and styles, but in fact it is used as a tool to create propaganda and consumerism. Images “paintings” are particularly used for persuading targeted audience to think in a specific way towards different issues. Artists may even create propaganda for personal benefit or for a payment. Smoking: Smoking is not only the act of inhaling substance, but it has other aspects from different perspectives, social movements, and differing awareness. The major reasons for smoking beginning is inspiration (from people they love), imitation (to their role-models), and reliving depression and anxiety “as they wrongly think”.

Art of Giving (it is the time for learning the language of humanity)

My personal project is a story about a girl that lives in the middle east and tries to face the beauty standards. My aim behind the book is not entertainment, but my aim is helping girls healing from beauty standards; I didn’t write a way of treatment, but I wrote a story that is likely to be like several girls in the middle east. I want the girls to notice how they are treated and get affect, maybe in this way they prevent people to objectify them that they get labelled and ranked according to their looks, so they prevent themselves from entering the maze of mental health issues that is related to body image

What I have learned...

What I have learned...

I have learned that taking risks “ being a risk taker” and being transparent and “reflective” with yourself and your supervisor will help you succeed and develop, I have also learned that the IB system isn’t as tough as it looks like if you are consistent and persistent. Moreover, l have known that criticism in a way of reflection is the only way that will help you to improve, as reflecting will help you know your mistakes in order not to do them again, and negotiating ideas with others is your main key to creativity.

As an IB student I believed that skills are the main core for anyone to be successful in there lives, that’s why l wanted to focus on developing my research, self-management, communication, and thinking skills. That was through communicating with students and IB experts by doing interviews, researching on how to write with the MLA citation and reading information related to my project, thinking in different ways to show up the skills l have developed through my product, and managing my time with the studies and the PP. Not only did I develop these skills; however, l have also progressed in shooting and editing videos with a professional camera.

What I have learned...

What I have learned...

I discovered how to create a song, starting from writing lyrics as I wrote in both languages, Arabic and English, adding melody to the song so it rhymes, as well as composing violin notes that match the song and play as a background for my song.

I have developed singing skills, in addition, I gained instrumental confidence to do so in front of a crowd. I have developed media literacy skills as I made a research about pop culture and music effect and developed better thinking both critically and creatively. Critically where I compared different lyrics I wrote, and chose the most relevant ideas and accurate diction.
Creatively where I portray my message/theme in a gripping way so the song hits global children-teenagers’ feelings, my targeted audience.

A Stranger in My Own House

Write and produce a song 🎤 🎻 (lyrics 🔤and music🎶) – Theme: Insured family is the pilaster for every bairn-child-, children with separated/ divorced parents always get stigmatized as weak or broken. It’s time we stop the stigma and encourage those children today to stand up for themselves against others’ beliefs.

What I have learned...

What I have learned...

Through my personal project journey, I have learnt many things, I have learnt a lot more about the refugee crisis by making my researches about them and also reading a graphic novel “When Stars are Scattered” that tells the story of refugees and how the live. I have learnt about editing and videography by completing an editing course on Udemy online. I learnt the differences between open ended and close ended questions and how significant it is to use open ended questions with children to be able to get as much information as I can. I learnt communication tolls like allowing for silence throughout the interview, listen carefully, and to pay attention with language as I should use age – appropriate words.  I have learnt the importance of having a backup plan in case anything happened. I have learnt how to overcome obstacles in unfamiliar circumstances and also the importance of having perseverance.

My Journal

What I have developed...

I have developed many skills, one of them which was from one of my learning goals was “communication skills” By having many meetings with my personal project supervisors, music teacher, drama teacher, and getting to interview refugees, I have developed my communication skills and I am really happy to say that I did. I have also developed self- management skills by setting priorities and doing to do lists. Setting priorities was the most essential and efficient way for me as it helped me finish everything on time without compromising any other subject. I have developed a skill that I really lacked and didn’t know it was that important which is “reflection skills.” By reflecting on my personal project journey, I was able to brainstorm a backup plan as it was possible that my original idea might fail, I was able to link the global context to my personal project as this helped me deepen my understanding of this topic.
